Brett Harned

Author of Project Management for Humans

Brett Harned is a project management consultant, coach, speaker, and author who has spent his career trying to make project management a little more human.

Over the past two decades, Brett has led projects and teams, built project management practices, coached PMs and leaders, and helped organizations improve the way they work. Through his independent consultancy, he works with agencies, corporations, nonprofits, and individuals around the world on project management, operations, team dynamics, and organizational change. His approach focuses on the part of project management that no tool, template, or methodology can solve on its own: the people.

Before starting his consultancy, Brett was vice president of project management at Happy Cog, where he led a team of project managers and worked with organizations including Zappos, MTV, and Monotype. His experience also includes project management and
leadership roles at Razorfish and other digital agencies.

Brett started writing about digital project management at brettharned.com after realizing there weren’t many places for people doing this kind of work to share what they were learning. That grew into years of writing, teaching, speaking, and community building. He has spoken at conferences and organizations around the world and has helped thousands of project managers become more confident, thoughtful leaders.

He is a founder of the Digital PM Summit and has spent more than a decade helping build and support the digital project management community. His first edition of Project Management for Humans was published in 2017 and the second edition will be published in 2027. He continues to write and speak about human-centered project management, leadership, and the changing role of the PM.

Brett lives outside Philadelphia. When he’s not thinking about project management, he’s usually listening to music, buying records he probably doesn’t need, traveling, taking photos, or spending time with the people and pets he loves.
