Summary

For the next Advancing Research Community Call, we’re going to switch things up. We’ll be breaking into small discussion groups to get thoughts from you about the current challenges, opportunities, and key themes for the future of research. You’ll have the opportunity to facilitate or contribute to your group’s discussion of the burning issues in our field. How are you thinking about users, participants, stakeholders, and communities we serve? What changes do you see to the frameworks, toolkits, and methods we apply to understanding the problem space? Into which areas (e.g., industry, academia, government, nonprofit) can research move and from which areas can research borrow; where are the opportunities for us to bridge divides? Join us on June 17th to share and learn what’s next for the practice of research.

Key Insights

  • Collaboration among different research silos is essential for advancing the field.

  • Inclusivity within research teams needs to extend to broader organizations for greater impact.

  • The community is growing, creating opportunities for diverse voices in research.

  • Democratization of research opens new avenues but requires strong governance to maintain quality.

  • Feedback from diverse discussions can shape future research strategies and methodologies.

  • Ethical considerations like privacy need to be amplified in mainstream discussions.

  • Successful research should be directly connected to business outcomes, adapting to organizational language.

  • There is a fear that democratization could dilute the depth of insights derived from research.

  • Emerging roles in research indicate a shift towards specialization and increased diversity in methodologies.

  • Communication tools can play a key role in bridging gaps across organizational silos.
